PGA Junior Golf League Comes to Dogwood Golf Club

PGA Junior League Golf is a fun, social and inclusive opportunity for boys and girls, ages 13 and under, to learn and enjoy the game of golf from PGA and LPGA Professionals.  Like many other recreational youth sports, participants wear numbered jerseys and play on teams with friends.

At its core, PGA Junior League Golf is a group of local golf teams who play a series of games against each other, utilizing a nurturing and social scramble format. The program is available to boys and girls, 13 and under, of all abilities. PGA and LPGA Professionals exclusively serve as Captains and are responsible for creating a welcoming environment for all that encourages skill and character development.

Registration deadline is April 15th with the season beginning shortly thereafter.  For those players that advance to the Post-Season of PGA Junior League Golf, those games begin in August.

For more information on the program visit http://www.pgajlg.com/.  For information or registration contact Dogwood PGA Professional JR Ross @ 678-598-4655 or via email at jrross@dogwoodgolfclub.com.

US Kids Golf - "Play and Learn"

Play and Learn is the answer to a question many parents and coaches ask: “Where do I start?” U.S. Kids Golf offers all the resources a parent needs to introduce the game to the beginning golfer and provides curriculum and tools a teaching professional needs to engage students and parents.

The U.S. Kids Golf Learning Program is a proven method to introduce golf to young players. The program becomes more difficult as players advance through each of the three levels, and the Level 1, 2 and 3 booklets provide the framework for both coaches and parents.

The booklets provide instruction and examples of forms and skills, and each level has checkpoints in five core areas: Putting, Around the Green, Full Swing, Knowledge and Scoring. As an incentive to advance through all the levels, players earn an achievement pin each time they complete one of the checkpoints. In order to pass each level, players must play nine holes from at least 1,500 yards (the distance of Level 1 Tees on a Family Course) and meet the scoring requirement.

Contact JR Ross  (jrross@dogwoodgolfclub.com) for more U.S. Kids Golf information. The program begins this spring here at Dogwood.

Want to hit more greens?

On the Practice Tee with JR Ross

The average golfer hits less than 6 greens in regulation. Translation, you will have 12 holes where you have less than a full shot into the green.  Every day golfers spend countless hours at the practice range in pursuit of a perfect golf swing - knowing in reality this does not exist. If only the same amount of time and effort was put into perfecting your short game you would see many strokes drop off of your handicap. Hopefully this article will give you some structure and ideas on how to improve your chipping and pitching.
